Alan Tantleff is a senior managing director in the FTI Consulting Corporate Finance/Restructuring practice and is based in New York. Mr. Tantleff leads the Hospitality and Leisure Solutions group. He is a respected hospitality industry and structured finance professional with 25 years of diverse, hands-on experience in the areas of lodging, gaming and real estate investment and development, workouts and restructuring, asset management, structured debt and equity financing, and acquisitions and dispositions.
Experience
Active in various segments of the hospitality industry throughout his career, Mr. Tantleff most recently has been engaged by multiple money-center banks and special servicers for advice in large, high profile hospitality mortgage restructuring matters, foreclosures and operational realignments. Representative engagements include the foreclosures of such notable projects as the St. Regis Monarch Beach; Four Seasons Resort & Club Las Colinas Dallas; Rosewood’s Mansion on Peachtree in Atlanta; W San Diego; Westin O’Hare and others.
In addition, Mr. Tantleff applies his broad background and experience in the hospitality industry to a wide variety of consulting, litigation and bankruptcy engagements, including corporate turnarounds, business process improvement, financial restructurings and bankruptcies. He is experienced in representing all stakeholders, including debtors, creditors and equity interests. Mr. Tantleff has broad experiences in capital market transactions, including debt and equity financing, note sales, and individual asset sales. Throughout his career, he has sold or financed more than $4 billion of hospitality assets.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Tantleff was a managing director at Hotel Asset Value Enhancement, a boutique asset management and advisory practice dedicated to the hospitality industry. Before that, he worked at BlackRock Financial Services, leading the efforts in hospitality workouts and restructurings of the financial manager’s $6 billion subordinated debt portfolio. Mr. Tantleff has held senior management positions at Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels, Granite Partners (Savilles), The Prudential Insurance Company of America and Sands Casino Hotel in Atlantic City.
Mr. Tantleff has earned numerous awards and accolades throughout this career, including Real Estate New York’s, Top 40 under 40 most influential people in New York real estate and RealShare New York’s, Commercial Broker All-Stars. Recently, National Real Estate Investor named him, Exit Strategy Guru, in an article about the timely disposition of hotel assets. He has also penned numerous articles and columns in various trade and industry publications.
Over the past 20 years, Mr. Tantleff has given numerous speeches and presentations at conferences, seminars and forums. His topics have included special servicing, management contract negotiations, workouts and restructurings and real estate investment. Mr. Tantleff most recently appeared at Hotel Motel Management’s panel, Distressed Debt Conference as the moderator of a panel of lenders and special servicers. He is a frequent guest lecturer at Cornell University and various business roundtables. Mr. Tantleff has also taught classes as an adjunct associate professor at New York University’s School of Continuing Education. He is recognized by the New York State Judiciary as a certified receiver and is qualified to serve in most other states.
