Michael Murphy is a senior managing director in the FTI Consulting Corporate Finance/Restructuring practice and is based in Denver. Mr. Murphy leads the FTI Consulting Merger Integration and Operational Transformation Solutions group. He has more than 25 years of experience working across Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and North America with a full range of media, communications and related companies across multiple industry segments, including printing and publishing, newspapers, online services, telecommunications, hardware and software technology and manufacturing.
Experience
Mr. Murphy is an expert in advisory services with an emphasis on restructurings, performance improvement, turnarounds, merger acquisitions, merger integrations and corporate carve-outs. He has significant corporate operational experience having overseen more than 125 client engagements. He has deep experience in processes and systems for information technology (IT); systems integration; supply chain; human resources (HR); sales channel development; engineering; manufacturing; outsourcing and organizational design. Mr. Murphy also has significant program management and product development leadership experience.
Mr. Murphy serves as an independent legal expert with experience in multiple cases, including an expert on behalf of a large enterprise software solution company, a court appointed expert in a case involving disputed network transactions and an expert in a shareholder case against a failed start-up. He also has supported other litigation matters and cases, including hardware technology, intellectual property infringement and contract governance.
Mr. Murphy has led and been a key contributor for a range of engagements where he applied his interim management and process improvement skills on top- and bottom-line improvements. His experience encompasses fulfilling the chief operating officer role for a large North American manufacturing company; consolidating multiple manufacturing plants and logistical locations in the U.S. and Mexico on two large engagements; serving as the chief integration officer on multiple acquisitions and integrations; negotiating as part of a buyers team complex asset and equity acquisition agreements; implementing and running program management offices; organizing integration team structures; overseeing all mergers and carve-out program deliverables with on-time and detailed work products; designing and implementing post transaction processes and governance and ensuring long term enterprise integration success. Mr. Murphy also contributes at the functional level in matters concerning HR; IT; network operations; field operations; order management; customer service; supply chain; manufacturing; sales and distribution channels and marketing.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Murphy was the chief executive officer of AM-BEO, a European software application provider and a partner at Arthur Andersen, where he led their North American cable practice. Mr. Murphy has also held senior positions with American Management Systems, U.S. West and Thomson Publishing.
Mr. Murphy holds a B.S. in aeronautics from San Jose State University. He has written and contributed to numerous industry articles and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences.
